Remedy Savior

Adele is rockin her new album. Love this song, Remedy. Adele is my best friend, she just doesn’t know it yet. Please confirm friend request, Adele. Please? [Adele] I remember all of the things that I thought I wanted to be So desperate to find a way out of my world And finally breath Right before my eyes I saw my heart it came to life This ain’t easy, it’s not meant to be Every story has its scars But When the pain cuts you deep When the night keeps you from sleeping Just look and you will see That I will be your remedy When the world seems so cruel And your heart makes you feel like a fool I promise you will see That I will be I will be… your remedy. I wonder what King David wanted to be? Was his plan to become a businessman, a father, a musician? A violent world assaulted David. He faced impossible people and impassable politics with faith and an intimate tender love for God. I keep looking for that…thing…that truth which propelled David through the black hole of cruelty and scars. David’s remedy for the pain of a son that hated him, a ruler who conspired his death, a wife that abandoned him, a heart that failed him, was the love of God. What did you want to be? What was your plan? Do you carry scars? Disappointment? Jesus is our remedy. He loves you, friends you with the giving of his own life on the cross. Remedies despair with resurrection and hope. Jesus is as close as your breath, He calls this transcendent truth the Holy Spirit, the breath of God. Confirm his friendship. Breath in his presence. He is your remedy.

Cybersex/Sexting Seminar

This week I had the privilege to bring a one hour cybersex/sexting talk to the Seaside High School Principal, Sheila Roley, and her counseling staff. 30% of students sext and transmit child porn to their peers. The possession of child porn is a Class B felony in Oregon. I will be honored to address your staff with the cutting edge evidence based research on cybersex/sexting, porn blocking and tracking software, and a vision of helping our children and grandchildren. Contact me on any media venue: 5034405532 cell, Facebook, dr.glenmaiden@gmail.com.

Hard Core Porn Blocking for Hard Core Users

When you think about porn blocking there are 2 levels to consider: For children look for filters and blockers. Open DNS is free, I can hook you up to a tech who can talk you through the set up. Open DNS blocks porn at the server. You need to be able to Google search for the correct filter/blocker for your operating system. It’s super important to learn how to search for correct software to protect your family due to the constant change of technology and the creativity of users to get around blocking and filtering. For middle school and high school students I recommend tracking software that can tell you how much porn and sexting a student engages in. This is an important piece for you and your student. They will be exposed to sexting and porn from their friends. The question is not permission to use porn, but the ability to have conversation. Do you have a qualified therapist to assist you? Ongoing conversation with our student culture which has normalized porn and sexting is vital. Talk about it. Open the lines of communication. Give help. Be the adult. Shame will shut down your ability to talk to your child. Be positive, set boundaries,be kind and firm. Below is an excellent article on porn blocking for macs. This is a blog written by an IT expert to block porn. Check it out. http://www.doctoddlove.com/todd-love-blog/how-to-configure-your-mac-for-web-filtering

The Psalms and Trauma

This begins a new journey in the healing of the heart. Several PTSD confidential groups meet on line daily for encouragement, prayer, and healing. The participants read the passion narrative of Jesus in John 12-21 and reflect on Bessel Vanderkolk’s book, The Body Keeps the Score. These are amazing groups of healing people. I am adding one more dimension to this healing work, a daily meditation from the Psalms. Did you know that 1/3 of the Psalms touch King David’s trauma of family, work, and sin? In the comment section below I will write one reflection per day. Love your input.

Canon City High School Sexting Scandal

My mother lived in Canon City, CO for many years. It’s a lovely, sleepy, small town at the base of beautiful mountains. Hundreds of students have been implicated in felony 3 transmission and possession of child porn. The conversation is how to assign the label “sex offender” to so many students. Statistics reveal 2/3 of students engage in porn. I am reposting an earlier blog on porn blocking software. This is one means to help our children. We are taking aim at cybersex. 60-70% of male churchgoers use porn. 40-50% of females. The average age of the first time porn user is 10, fourth grade. When a partner discovers porn on a spouse’s computer the post traumatic impact is the equivalent to the experience of rape or sexual assault. (IITAP, CSAT Module 2) Here are some porn blockers you may want to try. I have “NetNanny”. It’s a lame name, but comes highly recommended. “Net Nanny, $39.99, available on Windows, MacOS, Android, and iOS devices: Net Nanny has been at or near the top of the parental control software ratings right from the start. The filtering and blocking features offered by Net Nanny are versatile and effective, as are the recording and reporting features. There is no screenshot playback, but everything else a recovering sex addict might want is included. Additionally, Net Nanny is relatively easy to install and configure, and usable on almost any device. Plus, the price is excellent.” R. Does Godly Sexuality Have Value?

Do you ever reflect on the value of Godly healthy sexuality? How does one put a price tag on the soul, relationship with God and each other? Here are some interesting stats on the cost of unhealthy sexuality and the connecting addictions. Let’s look first at lost productivity. You know, like non productive work, health care costs, sick days due to acting out. According to a 2007 study addictions cost our economy 193 billion dollars a year. On average that’s over 3 billion dollars for every state in the union. What about relationships? The average cost of a trial divorce is 19,600 dollars. If a divorcing couple can pull it together and settle out of court, the average cost is 14,500 dollars for out of court settlement. General wisdom for the treatment of sex addiction is 3-5 years of group work including 60 individual counseling sessions with a therapist. This is less than half the cost of a divorce settling out of court and 3 times less than going to trial. Therapist led treatment for Sex Addiction will save you a fortune in lost productivity and court costs. The value of the soul? Priceless. Addiction costs the us 193 billion a year according to a 2007 study. https://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/ondcp/Fact_Sheets/effects_of_drugs_on_economy_jw_5-24-11_0.pdf Not surprisingly, the more issues that went to trial, the more the divorce cost. The consumers who went to trial on any issue in their case reported spending an average of $19,600 in costs, including $15,800 for attorney’s fees. In contrast, costs went down for those who were able to settle their cases; consumers who settled all of their issues reported spending an average of $14,500, including $12,200 on attorney’s fees. http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/ctp/cost-of-divorce.html

7 Minute Meditation: The Cure for a Stuck Heart

7 Minute Meditation: Ever sensed your heart is stuck? Asked how you feel, you find that you are either not truthful or disconnected? Take the next 7 minutes and write every thought you have. Let me show you: “Grateful, tired, concerned, fearful, content, excited, love my family….” Do this for 7 minutes. Then, reflect on what you wrote. This is who you are right now. Alexithymia is the inability to put what is inside of you into words. A means not, lexi comes from the word for “word”, thymia is the Greek word for feeling, the inability to put words to feelings and passion. This is what many believers go through. They cannot connect the truth of who they are to their faith story. Take a few minutes, reflect, pray through it. Your heart will begin to unstick, you will connect once again. Now pray your meditation and connect with the Lord. Watch what happens within you.
